Chicago Catholic Parish To Ring Church Bells Five Times A Day

A bit of good news amid all the gloom- The Catholic Diocese of Chicago will ring their bells five times a day as a call to prayer:

9 a.m. – Prayer for those infected with the virus and all those who are ill

12 p.m. – Prayer for healthcare workers and those attending to the sick

3 p.m. – Prayer for first responders and essential workers

6 p.m. – Prayer for people of every nation and their leaders

9 p.m. – Prayer for those who have died today

The Churches there have suspended services as many have here as well, but I strongly praise this move on their part. We as a nation need to return to our faith as such times remind us of the fragility of life. Hopefully this will catch on elsewhere. A large number of people need it.

Amen! There are a lot of calls for prayer in my parts also along with calls to repentance. Of course it’s Lent, so the call to repentance was already ongoing but now the “pucker factor” went up considerably.

Hopefully those previously not taking that call seriously have reconsidered. We feel so powerful with all of our modern abilities and tools but none will save us from the grave and there’s only one way to prepare.

Those are very good thoughts. Religious Faith in the past have great assisted in keeping spirits up in times of war, sickness and other set backs. Recognizing hardship and asking for help and guidance in having a good day certainly isn’t weakness. Kudos for all churches and denominations in recognizing that.
