A Look At India’s Jungle Warfare School
Coming off of the last Scout Course, as the students learned a lot of the curriculum has been developed from my own experience, the experience of my training group cadre, and quite a bit of input from foreign experiences. Our operating environment is not Iraq or Afghanistan- and the tactical thinking behind those environments is flawed at best when applied to a woodland war. This is a interesting look at the way the Indian Army trains for operations in the Jungle and there’s more than a few takeaways that can be applied to potential southeastern woodland guerrillas. -NCS

Gurkha jungle fighters…..I pity the fools they are hunting!
Lots of great lessons here. My 1980s training was taught by Vietnam-era SEALs, and we practiced constantly in the marshes and swamps of Virginia, the Carolinas, and Puerto Rico. Very good point about leeches and invisible bugs. Crossing nasty foul water is a real health threat. Try hard to keep it out of your nose, mouth, eyes and ears! And take care of your feet!
The Indian Army jungle school is recognized as one of the best.
Our environment looks a lot more like this than the GWOT deserts. It’s a completely different fight.
Since my USMC days (60’s & 70’S) of all I have read and heard of these guys, of all the special operations units of all the armies throughout the entire world, outside of the SEALS, I would want these guys on my side, watching my backside…
