Thanks for this great video. I have 2 MIRA CM-C7 masks plus several NBC & specialty filters. Also, I have on order, a CamelBak Thermobak 3L CBRX bladder & a Type M adapter. MIRA Safety is a great company to do business with & they have an excellent customer service/support department for good measure.

It’s imperative to have a good gas mask & several NBC filters. My grandfather endured 8 months of mustard gas attacks during WW 1. He said it was the best thing to have along with a good rifle & sharp bayonet! I’ll spare you the details of his experience with chemical warfare but believe me, it was gruesome. When the festivities begin, I’m expecting bio-chemical agents are going to be used by any of the belligerents. I’ve even heard where it’s going to be the shit that isn’t going to make you cry but make you die. Get prepared & may all of you survive the inevitable.

P.S. If you get a bladder make sure it’s rated CBR (chemical-biological-radiological) to keep contaminates out of your water supply. Wearing this mask for about an hour at room temperature will make you thirsty. It did me.

P.P.S. Hawkeye is correct. You need to wear a mask if you’re going to range on occasion just for practice. As my grandfather said, it was a bitch wearing that #@8^? mask & shooting at the same time!

Good stuff. Any links for who makes eyeglass inserts for protective masks?

    • Patriotman September 12, 2020 at 22:41

It only works with the CM-6M but there are glasses inserts.

Great report. Couldn’t be happier with my MIRA full visor mask.

Although, it’s hard to get a decent sight picture. As you mentioned, that requires a degree of familiarization.

I got the old M40. I also picked up some Israeli civil defense PAPR masks. They’re a full face shield and hood with CR123 battery-powered blower attached to the filter. When junior was little, I also had an Israeli baby mask for him with its own PAPR blower. Those people do some awesome stuff when it comes to protecting their people. Over the years, I’ve picked up a variety of tyvek and tychem suits, JSLIST, and assorted whatnot. If you’re interested, KI4U.com sells the potassium iodide, survey meters, reconditions Cold War Civil Defense CDV-700 series survey meters, and even produces their own stuff, like the Nuk-Alert keychain radiation detector. They’re worth checking out.
http://approvedgasmasks.com/ These folks are great for promasks of all types, filters, and education on what to avoid at all costs. Those old Russian rubber skull masks with the coffee can filters or an antique Gulf War-era Israeli mask and filter are not going to cut it.

Good article and links, this is the stuff that isn’t “tactic cool ” and thus not as much info out there as say the latest rifle/round ect.
I will say this is a hole that needs filling in me preps and will do me research and fill that hole!

I have 2x MCU2P’s, 2x M40’s, and 4x M15’s.. And a large tote full of 40mm NATO Filters, all nicely vacuum sealed with desiccant packs.. All stored in a cool/dry place, so they don’t deteriorate.. Last time a checked them was last March, when the Kung Flu was looking pretty bad.. All GTG..

What is hard to get, is a decent Molle gas mask pouch.. One that attaches vertically under your left arm, and opens forward with left hand, from the inner side, outward.. The ones I have been seeing are seriously F’d up.. Mostly top opening, for mounting on a drop leg platform.. Tried several, Eagle, Blackhawk, flopping all over the place, what crap.. How can ya run gas mask drill with that crap, it’s ridiculous.. Must be s SWAT thing!

Best I found is a Chinese NCstar Molle mask pouch, not bulky or floppy, made to mount vertically under the left arm opening forward.. But, the opening is freaking BACKWARD, LOL! It opens from the outside>inward, so ya yank it open, cover blocks your right hand, and the mask just falls out, LOL.. I had my wife use her sewing machine skills, and reverse the cover, so it opens inside>outward.. Works good now, bought more cheap, like $14 each on Amazon, (a while ago) but haven’t modded them yet..

I always found it more manageable with the leg strap. If you strap it to your hip and use the around-the-inner-thigh strap, it doesn’t flop so much.
I also appreciate the European-type shoulder bags.
The Finnish gas mask bag is great for a general carry-all. I keep one in my car with useful items if I have to walk home.

Try a 25 meter crawl with that on your thigh, or your waist.. It will rotate to the front, and drag like an anchor, catch on anything it can, brush, rocks, sand, mud.. It will plow a furrow you could plant corn in! Not to mention grinding your gasmask in the dirt! Been there done that, that is why I abandoned that method of carry.

But I don’t know how many actually crawl as part of their training.. In my experience, it will exercise muscles you forgot you had, sure dogs my ass! 25 or 50 meter crawl will show you some problems with your gear as well! Like thigh rigs, and kangaroo pouches, chest mounted pistols in open holsters, etc..

Come out the other side carrying 20lbs of real estate packed in your gear, lol..
Try it bro, you’ll see what I mean..

Alan Burquist RIGHT ON! Great comment.

Many many moons ago, I wore my secondary on my thigh using a drop down holster. Well I used that setup till one day doing a training exercise running (Attempting to run) by way through some pretty thick cover. My handgun kept holding me back. The same day, we had to do a svelte crawl to a location about 30 or so yards from the starting point, again in heavy brush. The instructor with the help of a few students were supposed to yell out if they saw you. Well again, the heavy brush kept getting caught in my tacticool handgun rig on my thigh.

Once I got home I purchased a Mid-Ride holster from Safariland. Problem solved.

          Thanks for sharing Brother.
