“Open Letter to the Pulpit”, by Jefferson Thomas

This has been laid on my heart for quite a while, but until now it seemed to me that it wasn’t time. Up until now it would not have been good to bring a polemic against the pulpit in public and view of those who are always looking to wag their heads and tongues against the Church, giving them occasion to say, “See, they can’t get along with each other, hypocrites, and they claim to know the truth!” The time has come now, though. In one place Jesus said, “He who is not with Me is against Me.” (Matthew 12:30) And in another, “Whoever is not against us is for us.” (Mark 9:40) Never before in this country – and I dare say the world – has the division crystalized to such an extent as now. This current situation is such that nearly everyone is either actively for Christ, or actively against Him! Nothing to be said now would change their minds! As Archbishop Vigano said in his open letter to President Trump, this truly is a time of cosmic importance.

And where are you?

The times preceding and during the American Revolution had the Black Robe Regiment. The Church today hasn’t fielded barely a squad! Today we have the Pusillanimous Pulpit! “Everyone now please put on your masks, stand up, and greet one another.” What’s next? “Now you know, we can’t be hiding salt, or radios, or guns, or slaves, or Jews. It’s against the law, and we are commanded to follow our leaders.” Ignorant shepherds! Don’t you know that we who are teachers and pastors have a higher responsibility and will be held accountable for our use – or lack thereof – of these positions? “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, because you know that we will be judged more strictly.” (James 3:1) But instead we have the fulfillment of 1 Timothy 1:7, “They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or the things they insist on so confidently.” In fact, our pulpit today is just like that which the writer to the Hebrews addressed: “For though you should in fact be teachers by this time, you need someone to teach you the beginning elements of God’s utterances. You have gone back to needing milk, not solid food.” (Hebrews 5:11) Indeed, our current situation makes the Letter to the Laodiceans look like a compliment!

Before you go spouting off about Romans 13, and it being written during the time of Nero (and then stopping there) go back to the basics of your hermeneutics classes – if you even had any! And I don’t mean those taught by a post-modern, Gospel-hating “seminary” like we are full of now! Interpret Scripture with Scripture! If your “interpretation” is seemingly contradicted by other Scripture, then YOU … ARE … WRONG!

What about the midwives during the time in Egypt? What about the Judges and their continuing delivering of the Israelites from the constant barage of pagans wanting to enslave them, even doing so? Were those not their “leaders” at the time? What about David and the deliverance from the hands of the Philistines, who would not allow the Israelites to have a blacksmith for fear they would make weapons? (1 Samuel 13:19) Or Daniel? Or Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? You see that you have missed the principle.

These people you think are our leaders, are NOT! They are our servants. That is how our government is set up. Set up by God-fearing men following over 700 years of history that developed into the Representative Republic which we are supposed to have today. You can say, maybe even correctly, that it has failed, yet that still doesn’t change the fact that these are not our leaders, and those that do claim so are nothing more than usurpers or their mealy mouthpieces. Today we lack knowledge of both Biblical principles and the history of our Republic. And WE are to blame. The Church. We have sat back, living it up, untested – until now.

This nation is at a crossroads, and what happens to the Church here, the flock, is dependent on how we respond. We get shouted down, instead of shouting back. In fact, we shouldn’t be shouting back, we should be shouting first. The godless communist minions mean to seize the last bit of control and enslave us, and then kill us. We know our election was corrupted beyond anything previously imaginable. And yet we are silent.

Yes, put your trust in God, and pray. Pray like you never have before! Because you will be persecuted like you never have before. Pray for His mercy and that He lifts up President Trump and for a reprieve of the discipline about to come crashing down on our heads. Pray for a halt to the apostasy we are witnessing, and for the courage to speak out for the Truth. We have time to affect the direction we will go, but barely. It is not yet decided and the prayers of the righteous will be heard. Stop sitting by idly! The Lord likes people of action – David was a man after His own heart, even with his flaws! David prayed, but he also fought when the time came for it.

We have gone the way of the Israelites during the time of Samuel. This nation seemingly cries out for a king like all the other nations – any king but Jesus. And the same warning from Samuel applies. The king you ask for will take your land, your horses, your sons and daughters. And like the kings of Israel will eventually, very likely sooner than later, bring us into total subservience to abominable people. The president is not king. Trump is not king, or Jesus. He is the servant who was rightfully put into that position. We are called to follow no king but Jesus. And we have a choice, and the the two options are clear, polar opposites. We don’t get to sit on the fence. We don’t get to slide by in secret. Support the servant of the Lord, or the servant of Satan. Open your mouths. Because the alternative is worse than most of us have seen.

Men of the pulpit, take the stand you are called to do, and the Lord will bless you, and the people will follow!

Excellent article. Thank you for reflecting what God said and not what men say. I became a patriot because I read the Bible, not the other way around. We need more like Phinehas (Numbers 25:1-8). I trust that God will raise up His true servants. Like the angel said in Rev 10 , eat up the whole Word of God, both the bitter and the sweet. Then we will know our priorities, and to whom should we seek for leadership and deliverance. May God bless us all with wisdom and discernment.

Well stated. The West is not the whole Church. But the Church is the entire West. The whole of western civilization as we know it is a reflection of the good and bad aspects of the Church- both “Catholic” and “reformed”. As the Church goes, so will go the West. Right now the Church is desperately sick. It is divided. It is ruled by “hirelings”, not shepherds. The hirelings follow their paycheck, and their paycheck follows the zeitgeist. It’s a never-ending circlejerk where the weak lead the clueless and the fad dictates theology and practice. The West will not be saved apart from real repentance and renewal in the Church. I’m skeptical that real renewal can be achieved in the midst of all the division. The division makes too much room for the wolves to push the sheep over the cliffs of “relevancy” and “compassion” and “progress”. This is the single most important issue of our time.
