“A Solid Foundation” – 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, By CountrySlicker

10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:10-11)

Like in the previous verses, Paul uses another analogy here to describe the process of a maturing believer.  He describes the process of creating a building.

The word “foundation” used here is from the Greek word “themelios” (the-me’-lē-os) meaning the foundations, beginnings, first principals of institution or system of truth.

The foundation is the base on which everything else rests.  If the foundation is no good, then everything that rests on it will fail.  Everything depends on the foundation.  Without a foundation, you cannot build.

Jesus discussed a foundation in Luke 6:47-49…  “Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell.  And the ruin of that house was great.”

What is your foundation?  What do you cling to when things get difficult?  Where do you turn for stability when everything around you seems to fall to pieces?  Be honest with yourself.  Where have you turned for comfort in recent weeks and years as what we consider normal has seemingly been turned upside down.  Have you turned to your relationship with Jesus or have you sought comfort in worldly pleasures or worldly possessions?

There is One that never fails and never waivers regardless of the situation or the circumstances.  There is no substitute for a life built upon a relationship with Jesus.  He is the foundation to a full life lived here on earth and He is the foundation to an eternal life in heaven with our Heavenly Father.

“Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:  “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not act hastily.” (Mark 10:45)

May you experience the peace, comfort and stability of a life, both here and in eternity, built upon a relationship with Jesus.

God Bless,
