COMBAT READY, MY ASS: USMC amphibious assault vehicles permanently pulled from deployments

The Marine Corps has permanently pulled amphibious assault vehicles from “regularly scheduled deployments” due to concerns over vehicle safety and resources allocation, the Marine Corps first confirmed to Marine Corps Times on Wednesday.

After a tragic July 2020 sinking that killed nine troops, AAV operations had been halted. But the Marine Corps renewed its waterborne operations in the spring of 2021, believing the issues had been fixed and operational requirements had been improved.

“Given the current state of the amphibious vehicle program (the program that manages both AAVs and ACVs), the Commandant of the Marine Corps has decided the AAV will no longer serve as part of regularly scheduled deployments or train in the water during military exercises,” Maj. Jim Stenger, a Marine Corps spokesman, told Marine Corps Times in a Wednesday email.

    Not to worry.
Marines can still assault hostile foreign beaches wearing water wings.
Our top brass, having studied this assiduously can and has assured us of this.
(water wings to be supplied by contractor in a variety of colors)

“Marines can still assault hostile foreign beaches wearing water wings.” – That’s f*cking hilarious! I can picture the amphibious assault troops wading ashore with water wings and an inflatable float ring (ones like toddlers use in a pool).

With an assortment of different “heads” on them.

In the ‘90s they got rid of the 5 ton truck which was so overbuilt you could drive it to your body’s limit off road and add steel and sandbags as you pleased. Replaced with a soft , complex Euro style truck. We desperately need a Truman style war board, which probably won’t happen till the first real ass stomping.

This just in – China has announced the suspension of all water wing exportation effective immediately.

Everyone who comes here, even the naysayers, know damn well trouble is here and is only going to escalate. Even if only on a subconscious level. The arguments and snide comments that break out from the non trolls only expose how afraid the over 50 crowd on average is. They know, even if they won’t admit, they aren’t going to weasel their way out of discomfort and confrontation.

The military is being set up to be demolished. I wouldn’t even be shocked if the entire order of battle of the Navy in the Pacific was already given to the PLAN by the Pentagon.

“The military is being set up to be demolished.” Ghostmann, I’ve heard the same from numerous sources, as in, “They don’t need pilots, tank drivers, ship’s captains or special forces personnel” ’cause of robotics mixed with Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). D.A.R.P.A. is working on some spooky stuff and that’s only what “they” want released to the public. Who knows what this Deep State has planned for the citizenry.

Price of the the neverending “safety belt” culture. Shut operations down without an alternative plan ready to go.
Kind of like the mother who doesn’t want her kids playing outside. Meanwhile, by son’s best friend gets killed by a felled tree as part of a pioneer class. Camp Lejeune golf course had some dead trees to be removed.

I’ve been warning people for years and all I’ve got to show for it is … less friends! The ones I do have I will give my life (probably) defending though.

The military may need to consider going “Old School” in the re-acquisition of the old 36′ “Higgins Boat” aka, LCVP [Landing Craft, Vehicular/Personnel] which was a single-screw diesel engine propelled boat used in WWII amphibious assaults and could carry more than thirty combat loaded Marines. Also the old LCM 6’s and 8’s [Landing Craft Mechanized] were even larger than the LCVP’s and could hold a LOT more combat personnel, equipment and vehicles. I’ll bet you a cool pop these craft were immune to an EMP, too.

These boats were still in use in the early ’80’s at Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, Calif. When I was stationed at Special Boat Unit #13 (our prime mission was supporting UDT 11, 12 and SEAL Team ONE) I got a slot to attend the “Assault Boat Training” course using the three craft described above. It was a hoot to beach the boat, lower the bow ramp, close it and safely un-ass the beach without getting hammered by the 4 to 6 foot waves.

It was taught us back in the day that a full-bore Amphibious Assault was one of the most complex military operations to be conducted.

More re: the old LCVP’s. Think of the opening scene of “Saving Private Ryan.” Them were the boats. It was an honor to be in PHONCOM’s with an old ex Navy coxswain (Maritime saying, ie. small boat captain) who conducted two amphibious assaults carrying Marines in the Pacific theater. He was probably a Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer (E-4) and at one of the landing sites, whilst under withering Japanese gunfire, his “chief engineman” of the LCVP was killed instantly from a Jap rocket. The two guys were standing mere feet apart near the stern of the boat.
