Restoring an Old Rusted 8 Cylinder Head | Dead CylinderHead Restore (50 Minutes)
Pretty impressive job all things considered.
What kind of motor is this?
I am fairly certain the headline is mislabeled for the number of cylinders…

Nope, that’s the heads of an 8 alright. Blown gasket by the look of things. Done a pretty good job, but they didn’t take in account the space in between the valves and the injector port. They ground off the main surface, and so minimizing the before mentioned space, this will lead to less space for the injected fuel ( or fuel-air mix – when using an ” owlhead ” & pre-fuel chamber ) as the main combustion chamber is already smaller due to the re-grinding. In short : incomplete combustion, lower HP, … .
And by the way, by the look and color of the compacted dust on the heads & the ‘ workmanship ‘ , I’d say that’s in Pakistan.
Oh ya well! Says the resident expert! Ughhhh! Why God? Why!
Well…it might have something to do with the fact that I’m a Marine Diesel engineer.
One of the first ‘ big blocks ‘ I had the privilege to train on ( at age 13 ) was a U-boot engine, the same type you can see in the U-96. The cilinders were twice the size of the ones those kids were working on.
So yes, I know a thing or two about engines.
Looks like I had some drinks last night? LOL! I guess I see the humor in placing that comment there. Sorry hope I didn’t get under your skin.
Not keeping track of which valves go where. After they are done, it’ll probably run (bad) for a year.
I’ve been racing vintage karts for the past ten years with engines as old as I am.
