Worth the watch. I never realized the H&G 68 had the exact same Ogive as the original USGI specified round- I’ve cast and loaded tens of thousands of them!

About extractors- one thing I have always had done when I sent a pistol off for work- usually to have a front sight dovetail cut or maybe a trigger job, I’ve always had a spare extractor fitted at the same time. As long as the gun is in the hands of a quality ‘smith, that seemed like the best time to do it. That way if I ever did have an issue, I can simply replace the bad extractor with a known good and properly fitted one.

For reasonably priced 1911 work from a master smith I have always used Don Williams from Chino Valley, Az. Don knows the inside and out of 1911’s and Hi Powers. He can really slick up a CZ 75 too. But, of all the 1911’s I own, my favorite is one built by Robbie Barkmann while he was head of the Smithy at Gunsite. Fellow South African Louis Awerbuck did the hand matting of the slide, it’s a special gun and an old and trusted friend.

Louis was a great man. It was an incredibly tragedy losing him.
