ALICE LBE Modifications

Having had a conversation with Mike of Von Steuben Training and Consulting at the last Scout Course on the subject of gear selection and setup, I was looking for ways to improve the old ALICE LBE setup I had pieced together. I originally chose ALICE gear because it can still be found dirt cheap.

Plenty of folks were issued this gear and learned to use and improve it. Never having been in the military I lack that experience and was looking for ways to improve my setup. I found this site, which has some tips that I found useful. If you’re still running ALICE gear, take a look.

Actually the Vietnam era ammo pouches are great for both 5.56 and 308. Depending on whatever, one might use them for 308, 556, or both. Just cut out the dividers and it will fit two 308 mags turned sideways.. I put a rubber pmag extension on one of the 308 mags and one without. Making it easy to get to the first mag. I put a ranger band around it so the pouch collapses as I pull out a mag.
I use a T.rex arms battle belt. But left the mag pouches in the same place. (easy to access, easy to bend over with. And easier on the old bod if a belly flop is necessary.) And one can still hang plates from suspenders.
Medium drop leg ALS holster on strong side. G-code mag holder on left side just behind the mag pouch for a fast mag. And a dump pouch for spent mags.. Also left side up front is IFAK with knife mounted up high behind the IFAK. this leaves room for everything else including a small pack on my back. And vehicle is no problem. Very versatile.
