Interesting.
I believe the barrel can be changed on Savages without the need for expensive headspace gauging and a dedicated machinist and gunsmith.
On the Savage 110 family all you need to change it is an action vise, barrel nut wrench, and the proper headspace gauge.
Thank you.
I remember discussing the merits of the Savage system with a fellow shooter the last time I went to the 1,000 Yard Range.
It sounds like a good system. Especially when electricity, comms, supply, and long movements may not be an option.
Imagine carrying around a mountain of gear in a war on a low count cartridge like a 338, 300 WINMAG, or 6.5.
Yep, it’s a good system, with a small investment in tools you can swap barrels and headspace Savages really easily. I’m not certain, but think you can also get some setups for a Remington 700 action that use a barrel nut system.
There are barrel nut options for many popular makes now, I have swapped barrels using them, very easy to due.
