I soured a bit on this dude since I’ve been seeing him taking paid promotions to pump penny stocks. He did one on a gold mining stock a few days ago. Stuff like that really hurts a person’s credibility. It’s too bad.

The one I saw was for a gold miner. He made it very obvious it was sponsored. All miners start out as penny stocks. Before crypto, they were one of the few places you could turn $50 into $500 or $5,000.

How is it hurting his credibility? He’s literally giving you every prediction for free and no one has to buy the stock. I’m pretty sure the stuff he says isn’t going to be monetized by YouTube and frankly, he’s probably losing money productivity-wise doing the videos without some sort of way to monetize them.

Radio Contra has paid promotions before every podcast too.

It hurts his credibility because it looks as though he participated in a pump and dump. You can see that in the price action of that particular mining stock. It pumped big (both in terms of price and volume) on Monday (and has spend the rest of the week dumping) whereas the rest of the sector did not. There was no fundamental reason for the pump (no news on the stock). It was purely hype. There are certainly a good number of people now holding the bag on this stock that bought it on Monday.

I don’t disagree on the basic premise of putting some money in gold producer stocks either, even penny ones. But this is one particular stock. Maybe this stock is a good one. Or maybe it’s absolute garbage. All I know is that micro-cap exploration companies that have no revenue and never made a profit are very risky.

I just don’t like when a guy who puts himself out as a subject matter expert mixes sound advice with paid promotion of a product in the same area of expertise, especially when the product is very iffy.

Let’s say this stock ends up being absolute garbage, then as the promoter you put yourself in a position that either you should have known that it was garbage but didn’t as a subject matter expert (meaning your expertise is in question) or you knew it was garbage and promoted it anyways (you’re a scumbag). Not great for credibility.

Additionally as a promoter of a stock that appears to have been a pump and dump, your reputation has additional problems of people wondering if maybe you profited from the pump and dump itself. Again, scummy behavior.

I don’t have a problem with people trying to make a buck from Youtube or what not. No way would I would fault the guy for reading some copy for some stupid online game or for freeze dried survival food or whatever, it’s just a bit different when you are mixing your expertise with a product in the same area for reasons I’ve stated.
