Texas Republicans want to secede from the United States. Could they do it?

It’s called the Lone Star state for a reason. Not for the first time in its history, some in Texas want to secede from the United States and form an independent nation.

Texas Republicans, at a state party convention this weekend, called for a referendum to determine whether the state “should reassert its status as an independent nation”.

“The federal government has impaired our right of local self-government. Therefore, federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas should be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified,” said a policy platform approved by delegates at the state party convention.

Calls for secession are nothing new for Texas. It is a state, after all, that prides itself on its independent streak. But in an age of heightened polarisation, could the separatists have a chance?

The Texas Nationalist Movement has over 450,000 members and the number continues to increase. Texans are fed up with the corrupt federal leviathan and it’s deep state tyranny. The referendum is to allow the people of Texas to vote on the issue of seceding. However there are a lot of RINO globalist open border gun grabbing clot shot pushing politicians in Texas like Senator John Cornyn who are betraying both America and Texas. Who is John Galt? TEXIT!

Not happening. If it ever did, I’d probably move back there. But it’s not.

Every state in the union lost its right to secede with the federal victory of the civil war. This fact has been solidified by making each state a debtor to the federal government via various forms of federal funding of nearly everything. It’s like a drug addiction. If the ties were cleanly severed without default, the seceding state would not easily overcome its financial dependency. Like turning off the EBT cards. Good luck with that.
As a Texan and having had worked for the state, I can assure you that there is plenty of corruption at all levels of the state government. So before they go fighting against the “corrupt federal leviathan,” Texans had better clean their own house first. We have enough corrupt leviathans of our own.
Just trying to keep things real here.
