THE FOUNDATION OF POPULIST REVOLT, by NC Scout

(NC Scout / American Partisan) Frustration is a common theme among conservatives, and has been for some time. Its certainly understandable, as what draws people to conservativism is a desire for stasis. The ‘system’ works in their favor, more or less, and while they may grumble about the goings on of the day to day affairs of the polis, the social equilibrium remains largely unscathed. Much of what one sees online and elsewhere is reflective of this reality and is, for what several personal friends frequently lament, the reason we rarely saw ‘conservatives’ collectivizing in public forms of protest.

It is equally important, while we’re defining terms, to recognize what the term populism means. Almost exclusively a left-wing connotation, populism is, to the laity, when a people have had enough of the status quo. The proverbial system, the social structure and arching hegemony which provided that stasis of comfort to conservatives, is failing. Populism is a direct reflection of cracks in the ruling hegemony; a challenge to the order of things. The fact that populist revolt is present in a social entity is evidence that not all is well in the body politic. Taken to its extreme, populism seeks revolution; an overthrow of the status quo in lieu of new ideas, new blood, new thinking. Sometimes it works, often times not. It is for these reasons we find the would-be Woody Guthries of the world singing their old Wobbly tunes while asking questions conservatives never thought to ask. The vagabonds, the artists, the drifters; all social outcasts that Merton would label Rebels.

Any social order will maintain a certain level of these types. While the bulk of a social body will have ritualists, also known as ‘normies’, or those who simply move along in their day to day lives, inching closer to death, consuming whatever the hegemony suggests for them, there are also Retreatists (social isolationists who begin as Rebels later aging out of viability) and Innovators. The former are mostly useless, much like cattle watching their lives gone by, although they make claim to the opposite. Innovators are the most interesting, seeing pathways to change within existing systems. Innovators manifest themselves as organizers, leaders, those with charisma. When Innovators are mated to Rebel ideology, revolutions occur.

Most left-wing social theorists quickly dismiss any notion of Right Wing populism. Interestingly, despite academia’s feint pleas of objectivity, there is an unchallenged vein openly encouraging Leftist populism alone. Such a position is ironic. The hallmark of Leftist populism of the Baby Boom generation was its over the top encouragement of social rebellion, maintaining an overarching appeal to rebellion that was taken up by the Innovators and bled into the Ritualists. The Leftist thought was to subvert control of the larger social entity, making communist revolution through the institutions inevitable. That much, subverting the institutions, was indeed successful. But the pitfall of unintended consequences was failing to recognize that which makes one a Rebel. Their own embodiment of natural rebellion of the youth in generations past has placed them at the helm of the structure of power; with its evident failures, coupled with a dystopian reality for the nation’s youth, the spirit of rebellion has now turned on them. Not in all cases public, but nearly all in private.

With every move towards censorship, with every door slammed in the face of the free speech they once so proudly claimed to champion, the fomentation of a new and radical form of Right Wing populism is fomenting. Conventional Marxist doctrine clearly defines a dichotomy within the targeted populace as Revolutionary or Reactionary, also known as Counter-Revolutionary. I disagree on the premise that Revolution itself is a Reactionary measure – to the current social condition, to blatant double standards, to a grim outlook towards a future. Revolutionary struggle, may I remind the reader, is generational, not immediate.

This of course brings us to the present state of praxis in the United States. It can no longer be debated that the Left, in fomenting such a grim prospect for a future, have moved much of the traditional support base towards the Right; what was once taken for granted, the divisions along race, class and geographic location, have now been muddied to the point of high toxicity. Even some of the most ardent supporters of the Left are recognizing the current error in strategy. This should not be confused with a shift in ideology, but rather the fact that they are warming up to the idea that they are losing the youth and in extreme numbers. The new counter-culture, the new act of rebellion, is found in wearing a MAGA hat and waving a Trump flag. Never mind the man himself; he’s simply a figurehead, a symbol, of a populist storm born in youthful rebellion. Such things, when stifled enough, tend to turn more radical. Such is looking to become the case.

Often conservatives, comfortable in their stations in life yet concerned about the direction of society lament loudly that there’s never any action, that nothing changes, that the Left seemingly gains ground with no abatement in the great cultural war on for the American spirit. They do so quite from the comfort of their homes, entertained, with bellies full and enjoying the rewards of a social order which benefits them. Citing outward cultural cues they cannot comprehend let alone understand, many simply dismiss the youthful embodiment of Right Wing populism fomenting before their very eyes. It is not surprising. They do not have a frame of reference to understand that this brand of populism is the 1960s counter-culture in reverse. The kids are not alright.

If the foundation of populism is revolt through recognition of inequity among society’s goals, then late Millennials and Generation Z certainly qualify. Raised on propaganda designed to beat down and oppress them, festering in the last decade to open disenfranchisement based on genetic factors outside their own control – straight white males need not apply, as we’re told – the social psychology in reaction becomes embodiment of these facts, across the board, applied to everyone. If everything is racist, nothing becomes racist. The more genders, the stronger becomes the desire for traditionalism. The harder the push for globalism, the stronger the vein of nationalism. The foundation of populist revolt becomes live and loud, seeking to capitalize on the outrage is causes among the older brokers of power. Being constantly force-fed a diet of dystopianism being attributed to they and they alone as the cause, populist culture of protest quickly gives way to populist revolt. It is an age old concept, previously visited often in entertainment aimed at the young. Hollywood has long abandoned the Spicolis and Marty McFly tropes of the 1980s…now you know why.

Conservatives, to a great detriment, are quick to latch on to an answer, any answer, they deem palatable enough to swallow without much digestion. I like what that man has to say, they proclaim, doing little else to further encompass praxis and thus useful action. Someone must lead us! they cry, reflecting on the threat they observe to their comfort. A return to normalcy is what they seek, whatever that is meant to be, turning the clock back to bygone eras in an effort to recapture a time where it seemed the social order functioned at its best. A type of mid-life crisis, applied to a large scale. But in doing so, they’re failing to embrace that very real populism that is manifesting before their very eyes. It is not a return they’re after, its a revolt given way to revolution. Most lack the capability to see it much to their own consternation.

In failing that last point; the non-recognition of a populist revolt in its infancy; Conservatives may be making a critical error. With each dismissal of an already volatile and reactionary youth, the legacy of the works of greats such as William Buckley begin to fade into obscurity. The fiery exchanges between he and Gore Vidal would do much today to process the nonsensical arguments concerning the morality of gender and sexuality. Absent this foundation, Conservatism must then begin anew, losing its soul, having conserved nothing and failed to provide its most basic principle – a coherent answer countering the lies of liberalism. It is not looking to the shortcomings of any one politician, but rather embracing the revolt and revolution by their very presence. Such a position is one of long sight, a long term strategy, and one that outlives those laying its foundation.

    The bellies being full..

It’s the reality that there are two conservative movements in this country. One tends to be older, tends to be more loyalist in their outlook and they are economic globalists who when it comes down to it, only conserve their wallet. Hey their grandkid is trans, but their 401K is doing really good by golly! You find this sentiment on a lot of alt media now as well. They now sell male enhancement pills, as a hint as to who I’m referring to.

The second is that there are the under 45 crowd like us who aren’t entertaining this nonsense anymore and are done with the “always be orderly and obedient” older conservatives and their liberal dance partners. Who are all late for their fourth booster. It’s safe and effective, after all. After all, it wasn’t the older conservative crowd that refused to wear masks and figuratvely held their employers hostage over vaccines. The loyalist crowd gave utterly stupid lectures about how “their business, their rules” and it was ignored completely by us.

      Exactly.

Substantially correct. There is a watchful minority, besides the two groups you mention, who are carefully seeding and nurturing dissent and getting our blood ready for something that may not come in our lifetime although, as the saying goes, that would be better for our children. Decentralized and more butter than guns. I’m encouraged by the changes I’ve been seeing in the two groups you mention though. There are signs I’ve not seen in my rather substantial number of decades. Unlike the worst of the militia kooks of the 80s, we aren’t operating from a place of fear but more like … resigned amusement.

By far, the most insightful, challenging, and stinging, piece read in a good while. Keep it coming brother, father, son…

Lots in here to digest with the morning cup of coffee, but one thing that may complement; I highly suspect that somewhere, sooner or later there is a REAL hard-core of ‘right-wingers,’ traditionalists, counter-leftists – whatever – the label won’t be important except to the left.

Two things go together: the current state of affairs for the young, and learned helpless psychology experiments from the 60’s and 70’s. Maybe it will split along ethnic lines or maybe not, but as mentioned above if you are a young man, you are by default stupid, racist, a latent rapist, guilty of all things, and are last in line for everything. Young white guys have the extra helping of race-guilt, but any ‘traditional’ young man of any background has enough crap to deal with as well, regardless of the current racial preferences of the day, if nothing else because the values of those that elevate the ‘favored race’ are in serious conflict with those so elevated ….if they are traditionalist, want kids, a family, and have a faith.

In other words, looking to their future, they don’t see one. Ditto, but with some differences traditionalist women who want kids, and don’t want them to eat soy, bugs, or be pedo’d.

The other part is this: those experiments mentioned above involved shocking dogs while giving them a way of escape. The next phase eliminated escape. The third stage re-introduced an ability to escape. The results were these: in stage 3 most dogs had been ‘broken’ and just laid dormant, accepted the shock and didn’t even try to escape. But a certain small percentage never would break, continued efforts and would in fact successfully escape the shock.

Putting the two together, this ongoing crucible of insult and forced ‘disadvantaging’ MUST be slow cooking an extremely hard, cunning, intelligent, and disciplined group of guys who will emerge as the ‘real deal’ elements of change, whatever that will mean. Such people would NOT go quietly and will not be subject to the stupidities that have hamstrung well-meaning but badly guided efforts to ‘do something.’

In far less words, the younger generation and particularly young men are undergoing the social equivalent of a selection process to see who will break, who won’t, and who has the capability to lead at a real level.

The unknown is this: if and when those people start to surface, there is no guarantee whatsoever they would want to restore traditionalism as we know it, any more than Hitler restored a glorious Aryan past (that never truly existed as marketed), or the Azov/s for that matter. They may be rooted in what they call nationalist tradition and are hard-core,real-deal – but there is no guarantee what direction guys like that will take when they get moving and ‘doing something.’

    Good Observations Amigo.

Many a times much is taught of wordly night visions, lasers,
tactics and other survival techniques. But there is a difference
between these realms in spiritual levels/dimensions that differ
from synthetic light and Spiritual Light, as in ‘A Tale of Two Cities”
from a tale of two “worlds”.

Keep in mind – “My Kingdom is not of this world”… was a hard hitting
teaching that many didn’t fully grasp then as now. Same old same old.
And as many gravitate in those realms/dimensions we see now, and
are part of, whether we like it or not, a balancing act is happening
    to stay afloat.

A visual “worldly” way of looking at it is this way:
    49 seconds vid
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FunoDTsdr2E

Imagine in above the balancing wooden posts at center being the “one purse”
and what many are saying now as “There are trillions at stake”

Moral of the story – Stay balanced, tuned and above all:
“Every man to his family and his possessions” and the other further
along – “Do not par-take of her sins”

Damn good stuff NCS. This reads more like the introduction of a sociology thesis paper on the implications of the “pendulum effect” of societal and cultural revolutions than a mere article. (The pendulum effect being when momentum swings back with the equal and opposite force of the first movement.)

“With every move towards censorship, with every door slammed in the face of the free speech they once so proudly claimed to champion, the fomentation of a new and radical form of Right Wing populism is fomenting. Revolutionary struggle, may I remind the reader, is generational, not immediate.”

You make a very interesting and important point here: What happens when the Marxists forces become the reactionary counter-revolutionaries? In the conventional Marxist dichotomy, the revolutionary forces have the momentum and the counter revolutionary forces are fighting the ‘inevitable tide of societal change.’ What happens when the pendulum reverses and the momentum favors the conventional “counter-revolutionaries” (I.e. conservatives)?

The leftist baby boomers (who generationally speaking have populated the long march through institutions) are now in the position of running the system that they “struggled against”. The conservative boomers have sat back and bitched whined and moaned about “socialism” and have done nothing.

    Vagabond makes another interesting point:

“In far less words, the younger generation and particularly young men are undergoing the social equivalent of a selection process to see who will break, who won’t, and who has the capability to lead at a real level.”

100%. The more “shock stimulation” that is conducted, the harder that group will become.

Their strength — and weakness — is their reliance on psychological warfare. Those who are still “plugged in” to the psy-ops machine of mainstream media are constantly swayed by the power elite to believe what they are told (like the dogs who were “broken”— but if that cycle is broken by their realization of the lies and manipulation then can become the powerful revolutionary force needed to correct the iniquity of the extreme tyranny of the system being placed over society today.

COVID unleashed a psychological-operations blitzkrieg in 2020 that has transformed into a psychological occupation force. This occupation force resides in the mind and therefore resistance to it must start in the mind. It takes constant effort to see what’s under one’s nose (to paraphrase Orwell), but with practice it becomes second nature.

As Scout said above “When Innovators are mated to Rebel ideology, revolutions occur.

Resistance to tyranny is obedience to God. We are for freedom — freedom to live, think, speak, and worship. Freedom — What greater cause is there than that?

C’mon guys, you’re buying into the divide and conquer BS and boomer bashing – STOP. I live in what many would consider to be one of the most conservative areas of the nation where unlike Texas, we’re actually winning (% of Trump voters, % of gun owners, maybe the #1 activist state on pro-gun laws, highest % of church attendance and beating back the liberal political agenda of CRT in the schools etc) and my reality is it’s the boomers leading by doing… as they are by far the most politically active (who actually vote) while the millennials and Gen X and Z crowd are busy playing video games, online poker, watching Porn Hub, and trading crypto… while in reality, being poseurs and virtue signalers when it comes to patriotism as they conflate texting, tweeting, posting You Tube videos and snarky memes on Social Media as actually doing and accomplishing something.

If you look at stats on any area of conservatism you want to measure, the boomers are more conservative than any other demographic… and fwiw, it’s not boomer’s kids who are turning LGBTQ+ at record numbers… and it’s not boomer’s who are dressing their boys like girls and their girls like boys…and it’s not boomer’s allowing our schools and the radical left to have Transgender Story hour at the library and allowing teachers to indoctrinate our kids in CRT and social justice theory… because our kids are already grown and long gone…. it’s YOU – the millennials Gen X and Gen Z’rs.

What you are considering insulting is a product of your own short-sightedness. It is in no way shocking. Your own drug-fueled hedonists gave society away and dare to lecture the younger generation. The legacy you hand us is a landfill. Don’t bitch – you did it. You had a time to shine in the 90s and did not.

This is not a piece bashing anyone, but a reflection on something to embrace and foster. That you, and apparently others of your breed, refuse to see anything other than your own screen is the very reason it was written. If you’d like to discuss youthful hedonism, the Boomers are THE prime example.

But it was written specifically to highlight the very reaction you’re giving. One of ignorance, idiocy, and affording you the opportunity to explain in quite vibrant terms why you’ll continue to lose, having conserved nothing.

  7. OldGuy July 28, 2022 at 22:48

Well, as a Boomer from the last quarter of the “generation” I found nothing offensive in the article or the comments. I do find it somewhat silly to use generational labels. I have little in common with the early Boomers. Was in grade school in the 60’s – not college. There are assholes in every age bracket. I go arrested a few times at abortion clinics in the early 80’s. I was in my mid to late 20’s. Shared the time with people who were then in their 60 and some just teens. If generational labels must be used then the criticisms of the Boomers are valid. At the same time we didn’t have near the access to information that people in their 40s and younger have had their whole lives. Nor the security. In the end, the only question any of us have is what will we do to combat the rot and decay.

Thanks to Scout for an insightful essay.
