What will or won’t survive an EMP event is mostly subjective. Aside from the Starfish Prime detonation and perhaps some Society testing we have almost no real world experience with EMP and modern electronic devices. And most of our data is from a time prior to almost all modern electronic equipment. There has been small scale testing but nothing remotely like a high altitude nuclear EMP. We simp!y DO NOT KNOW for sure.
No, its not subjective. You do know Dr. Bradley is the leading scientist researching this for NASA, right?
Leading scientist, hmmmm where I heard that phrase before
His bona fides need no defense. I’ve interviewed him on Radio Contra as well.
grabbed one of his generator plug ins last week! haters gonna hate
So, Bradley’s work with regard to EMP abatement, and isolation of equipment using things like trash cans and anti-static bags is relatively easy to check using simple equipment, like an HT and a spectrum analyzer.
I have the equipment, and I have checked his work, and in every case where I have checked his claims with respect to isolation/attentuation, his claims were conservative. REPEATABILITY is a cornerstone of actual science. If someone claims that X results in Y, and you go and check it, and X does indeed result in Y, that is science at work.
Bradley’s work, insofar as I have checked it, is repeatable.
The solutions offered here seem simple enough and resaonably priced. I’ve heard good things about Doc Bradley. Better to have protection and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Good Info. Was just looking over some stuff I had set aside for this last evening.
Would be great to get some “myth-busting” for some of the EMP stuff on the internet. Is a microwave an effective Faraday cage?
Check out his channel. He does exactly that.
Thanks for posting, hadn’t thought really heavily on EMPs since you interviewed him a while back on RC. I’m glad he mentioned the high quality bags; the cheap ChiCom stuff on Amazon doesn’t work. Beyond putting your phone in and seeing if it can receive a call or text, I remember him saying it depends on the decibel level of the bag too.
