Your dog or cat are great at reading non verbals. I have often watched to see how my pet greets, treats and responds to others.

One thing I learned from a book, the first Creasy novel which was later made into two adaptations, Man on Fire (the more recent remake from 2004 with Denzel Washington being more faithful to the book), what is a dead giveaway of Americans abroad is the way we cut and eat our food.

Generally speaking, we hold our fork with the left hand, knife with the right, cut whatever we are eating and then switch hands for the fork to eat.

So when I went abroad for a semester, I ingrained in myself to act like everyone else which was cut with your right, eat with your left, don’t switch hands. The problem is I’ve been back here in the states for well over a decade and I can’t stop doing it the way I did it over in Europe.

Similarly, my father-in-law was career Navy. My wife just told me a story when he was in port at Italy. He went into a local restaurant and got some spaghetti. Over there, at least when he was in, they would twirl their spaghetti. He began to cut his spaghetti like we do here and he wasn’t even quiet about it. He told her, the moment he started doing that the entire restaurant stopped looked at him like he was a freak.

Thanks for posting the video. It was very informative. I plan on buying his book.

Finally, Scout you know what I used to do for work. Needless to say reading body language was critical!
