Putin To Give Major Speech On Ukraine Referendums, Possible National War Mobilization

This was posted on ZeroHedge this morning:

Update(1055ET): Russia’s President Putin is set to give a major speech Tuesday evening (Moscow time) amid announcements by pro-Russian authorities in occupied regions of Ukraine that referendums to join the Russian Federation will be held in the coming days.

Russian media is reporting within the last hours (machine translation): “President Vladimir Putin may speak on Tuesday, September 20, regarding referendums in the territories of the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. RBC was told about this by three sources close to the presidential administration. The speech is expected before the end of the day, what exactly the head of state will say is unknown to RBC’s interlocutors.”

There are reports that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will also be by Putin’s side, leading some pundits to speculate we are about to see a possible formal declaration of war and “national mobilization” of Russian society.

Would it be wrong to say that a General Mobilization would be an admission that the Russians were wrong in their assumptions (Whatever those were) in invading Ukraine? Or is this somehow just part of the “Grand Strategy” just now being revealed?

Russian border moving west with regular army moving into garrison. There’s your ‘mobilization’.Way to go great gamers. But the ‘counteroffensive’ – Hitler did a lot of them too. Left whole armies behind in pockets. Ukraine received more aid in 6 months than Israel in a decade. Lost 1/5 of it’s best land, most of its industrial sector and half it’s coast. (So far) . Winning! Oh and EU collapsing with Turkey ready to bolt from NATO, Erdogan hanging out with Xi , Putin and Modi at SCO. Back at the ranch the enemies are preparing to call a red win in November a Trump ‘coup’. Should be fine. Sure won’t be boring.

Supposedly, the Russian Duma just passed new laws that include a 10 year prison sentence for any troops surrendering and 15 years for desertion. That doesn’t sound like “Victory on all Fronts” to me….

If you are the poor, peasant, conscripts the Russians call a military I suppose a trip to the Gulag is a step up from Political Commisars machine gunning you down from behind like they did in WWII…..

This is pretty standard. The UCMJ has similar punitive measures.

In fact, its the way militaries should be run. Unless of course you’re a social experiment in uniform.

Agreed. Every Military has or should have punitive measures for failing to follow orders etc……..BUT,….the timing? You gotta admit it’s at least a Little suspect ? This isn’t exactly as my comment notes that the Russians have had experience with soldiers not wanting to Die for Mother Russia!

          More ignorant takes on Russia.

I suppose those tax increases going to Raytheon is fine.

Its not fine with me. I know who benefits and it ain’t my Nation, neocon.

‘Moscow Times’ , lol. English language paper free on every corner. I spent a night at a bar there with two of their reporter’s’. Affable fellows, one from Cleveland and another from Maine. Barely any Russian and knew fuck all about the place except it was ‘bad’. Both were lumped up from ‘reporting’ on a gay parade that the local ‘hooligans’ swept from the street. By the time I finished plying them with drink they basically said they were full shit.
That said, those laws are probably on the books in some form since Ivan was tsar.
