FCC bans U.S. sales of Huawei and ZTE equipment over national security concerns

This is a fairly big deal in that it strengthens a Trump era policy. However, like most of Biden foreign policy regarding China, it is weaker than it should be. It is only a ban on new equipment and does not cover any equipment which the FCC has already approved…. Which if having these systems in our infrastructure is a risk to national security, what is the point in allowing them to continue to be purchased and installed?  Half measures are frequently worse than no measures at all because they give the illusion of solving a problem.

“The Federal Communications Commission on Friday announced it adopted new rules banning U.S. sales and imports of new Huawei and ZTE telecommunications devices out of national security concerns.”

“Other companies affected by the action include Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and Dahua Technology.”
