Supposedly back in the seventies John & Rita Jenrette got frisky on the capitol steps & were pilloried,
before 1970 homosexuals couldn’t get security clearances. and it was considered a disorder.
I would guess a lot of younger readers of this article support “love is love” tolerance etc..
