Brushbeater Scout Rig Review, by Grey

Quick review submitted by “Grey” after getting an entire weekend with it in Joe Dolio’s Fieldcraft Course held at my place here in NC. You can get yours here. -NCS

Thoughts on the chest rig – in my very unprofessional opinion.

Fit and finish is top notch. Velcro is heavy duty and robust. The shoulder straps actually give it significantly more coverage to spread weight out than the wendigo does. It also covers those front buckles when you’re prone which is a nice touch. Even if you get the straps twisted getting it on, the rear H component sits flat and isn’t uncomfortable. The rear H section being adjustable but solidly tied via velcro is a nice touch.

Nothing was snagging or uncomfortable even wearing a belt kit with suspenders and an assault pack. I didn’t have any mags to load it up with, but it retained all the small stuff I tossed in the side pockets and a radio in the mag pouch through all of our low crawling and pushing through grabby brush. The real velcro pouch is just about the size to store a small folded up map or a rite in the rain notebook and pen.

I don’t know that I would end up using the extra side molle double spots with the exception of something really small. Guys with larger chests and shoulders would probably get more mileage than I would.

The only thing I might quibble with is most .mil gear has drain grommets and this does not. I don’t know how important that actually is for the prepared citizen (I’m guessing not very.) They would be pretty simply to put in with a punch set if you wanted them from the design after purchase.

Value proposition is pretty good. This is stripped down and slim, and you’d probably be spending an least an extra 80-120 bucks even with milsurp to get the wendigo rig fitted out similarly.

Get yours here in M81 Woodland with Coyote and OD Green coming later in the year. -NCS
