The more I’ve read about WFB, the more I despise him. He was a gate-keeper, CIA (I know one decent man from CIA’s Cold War days), arrogant narcissist, and should’ve known better than to just be in favor of giving away the canal w/o seeing the potential long-term consequences.
Before Ortega illegally won election in 2011 to become dictator again of Nicaragua for life, I met the nephew of a former president of Nicaragua. Said former president was interested in creating a canal to basically challenge the Panamanians. It’s such a shame we did not take him up on that offer when he was in the office.
It’s also a shame I never took his nephew up on the offer to meet him. His grandniece, who is married to a good friend of mine, told me he died a year or two ago as a result of the Covid shot.
