It was anything but peaceful. From the assassination of JFK, to the urban riots to the anti-war demonstrations, the 60’s were a deranged & dangerous decade. The threat of nuclear war was evident in 1962 with the Cuban Missile Crisis. The increase in crime was astonishing after the slight decline in the 1950’s. In 1966, the University of Texas Bell Tower mass shooting left 13 dead & the murder of 8 student nurses in Chicago by Richard Speck grabbed national headlines. Serial killings were more common with the infamous Boston Strangler. Also, there wasn’t a week that didn’t go by when someplace was bombed or torched in a major city. I know quite well because I lived through it all. Keep in mind, it’s going to happen again. The worst part? Nothing is being done to prevent it in the first place.
