It begs the question, not only in this particular case but the concept in general – if part of the population can’t live peacefully among us, and isn’t smart enough to understand the consequences of their actions (ergo not responsible, as this court is inferring), then what is to be done with them? Am I expected to live my life at-risk of being stabbed to death by someone like this? Does society not exist to protect me from people like him, or are we suggesting vice-versa?
At best, their argument is to lock him up for HIS life so that he cannot harm anyone else. The rest of the possibilities are significantly worse for the young man in question. At the root of this entire premise however, is the argument that everyone else should be made to suffer for this one individual, and somehow I don’t think that’s how it’s supposed to go?
