Rubio may resign to prepare for a 2028 run
The Independent: US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is reported to be under pressure to resign following the Republican midterm losses that saw the party lose control of both the House and Senate.
Insiders in Washington and senior UK officials said that Rubio may quit to distance himself from the Iran war and to position himself for a 2028 presidential bid, with Vice President J.D. Vance named as his main rival.
A Washington source said Rubio is the leading Republican nominee candidate and that the midterms have prompted speculation that four or five cabinet members could “run for the hills” after the defeat.
