Good news, this commercial stuff is 1/10th the weight of the military gear.
The real obstacle is hearing the cries for help because you gotta sleep sometime.
And EWIS and EWS aircraft are designed to jam entire counties. Or fry your gear(I suppose)
And the Wolfpacks are incredible pieces of kit.
      This is very important stuff.
I love my commie guns! I have an SKS and a Mosin. Both of them are 200 meter death rifles. For under $500 total and 1200 rounds!
Very handy to bury in that “special place”. I got one for you and I got one for me. (Professional note, I wouldn’t actually bury a commie gun, they like to rust… yes they do)

As an old Naval aviator, and a comms guy spending a LOT of time on HF radio, I found this fascinating!
    Thanks for posting.

I purchased the Craig Buck series from Amazon to study for the “Ham Cram”. All 4/5 books
What other books should I purchase?
I really enjoy history and technical manuals. Price is of no concern during these times.
I suppose some older texts wouldn’t hurt to have around. Is there an improvised radio/comms TM?
I have some DM-1701’s and UV-5R’s with basic issue equipment.
I’m gonna go all the way on Ham and sign up for Scout’s class.
My best friend (Boogaloo bro) who is former Signals Intel/Recon knows what works and doesn’t work.
I need a course on the technical and tactical stuff so I don’t run around the jungle yelling “I’M NEW!! I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO!! PLEASE DON’T SHOOT ME!!”

I can’t wait to dial some of you guys up. Or whatever the lingo is.

Turned the base unit on last night, (Magnum S9/350) first time in quite a while.. Had to blow the dust off it! Match was 1.1 on the vertical, and 1.3 on the horizontal planes.. Pretty good, but probably need to change the coax, clean the connections.. Lookin kinda crusty thru the binoculars.. When I first put it up (1998) it had a flat match.. After 22 years, not too bad at all, so I guess I’ll just leave it alone for now.. Turned the Shooting Star south, rotor still functions OK, had to blow more dust off the control box, lol..

Was surprised at how quiet it was.. Years ago, when I was on the radio regularly, the sun was very active, energizing the ionosphere, I was getting 20+DB of skip from Mexico.. Like a massive beehive, covering the locals, only stations with decent power could even break thru it.. Like having your ears plugged, aggravating as Fk.. Kinda drifted away from the radio for a while due to that..

This time, turned the gain up, squelch down, very little buzz, NICE… Made a few contacts down the I-5 corridor, got a couple radio checks.. Talked to a couple stations that hadn’t heard me in years, they thought that I died.. No joke, lots of the older stations are gone.. People I knew well, dead and gone! My turn comin soon enough!

Everything still works.. My Echomax 2000 Mic has an issue with the din connector on the back.. Not the first time, but no more spare parts available for that, maybe I’ll just hard wire the cable to the board.. What a cryin shame, but times change I guess! So I switched to the ole reliable Silver Eagle, still works great.. Went looking at desk mics online, new ones look like cheapo crap.. WTF happened??? Frickin cell phones happened!

LOL, since I am rarely on any more, some new stations out there, not used to hearing my boomin station in their backyard.. Some radio guys get kinda pissy about that, LOL!

      Alan Burquist,

Welcome back! Drop me an email at [email protected]. Thinking of starting up a once a month net again. We have to get others to “blow the dust” off their equipment.

I’d send an email, but I can’t right now.. All of a sudden, Yahoo won’t allow me to access my Emails(s) unless I provide a phone number for a text verification message.. “Unusual Activity” requires verification, is what they are saying.. On all my alternate emails as well.. I have always been able to avoid that, until now..

Well, time for new name, burner phones, and new emails anyway..

          Alan Burquist LOL….

No worries brother. We are always here, 24/7

This sounds fun. Ya’ll are like signal snipers. Although, I think you might find extreme long range shooting fun, but not as mentally titivating.

        Johnny Paratrooper,

LOL…Most of the time you are a hoot Brother. God Bless you.

Just a FYI, I am a long range shooter when I can find a range long enough. My record is one mile using a 6.5 Creedmoor round.
