Great stories! They really take me back to my time in the 82nd. I too jumped into Panama a couple of years prior to the invasion. My ruck was so heavy that day. By the time I staggered to the door, I could literally only do a rolling head first into the void. Lots of twists in the risers.
Interestingly, I was a student in Costa Rica in the fall of 89. One of the big news items there in November or early December was a story of a couple of environmentalists who had run into some American soldiers in a national park in the southern part of the country. We later had a meet and greet with the ambassador, who explained it away as a counter drug operation. Could have been anyone, I suppose. We had no idea.

  I had a static line malfunction/injury on a mass tactical during 82nd Week.
  I was tied up outside the C-130 like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible getting bounced around.
  Finally my static line unraveled from my arm and I actually had a full chute.
  I road my motorcycle from Bragg to Baltimore in a sling after busting out some pushups to prevent my weekend pass getting revoked by my commander.
  He said “You better be at PT on Monday morning, I don’t want to hear about your medical profile from the static line injury”
  I replied “I don’t have a profile Sir”.
  My entire right arm was pink, black, yellow, and blue for two weeks.
  Unfortunately, we were testing the new T-11’s during that week and 3 men died before July 4th break.
  Very sad. One man had 4 kids.
