Don’t expect this to be a daily driver, folks. The author(s) wouldn’t even claim it should be. You are going to want to dedicate a box to its use. And because it uses virtual machines heavily you are probably not going to get by with a 5 year old laptop you have under the couch.

That stuff aside, its pretty ingenious.

Actually, it’s likely to offer more functionality on older systems. David Fry used TAILS to gain internet access during the Malheur incident.

His youtube channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/c/DefendYourBase/videos but it looks like he’s taken most of his videos from that time down.

Tails is great. You can use any PC, anywhere to boot from the thumbdrive, so you can remain completely unaffiliated to whatever you’re doing online. Daisy chained proxies through TOR add that last bit of complete privacy/security. More advanced versions of BIOS are attempting to subvert the anonymity of tactics like this… best to stay sharp.

That’s the best advantage of limited OSes. They utilize old equipment and run fine. When you’re running everything off a thumb drive you can source literally any type of a desktop and be good to go.

    Exactly.

The newest versions allow you to save bridges to persistent storage. That is a good option if you are using custom bridges to obfuscate your Tor use from your ISP, or that public wifi.

Test driving this is important. Quite a few public wifi networks are not Tor or even VPN friendly.

A little off topic, but in field testing Mullvad using shadowsocks and openvpn defeats that block.
