An inexpensive and easy way to carry medical gear

With all the different options out there for IFAK storage, it can get quite confusing very quickly. One simple way I like to store IFAKs is with the old Sekri Surplus IFAK inserts. These were created during the GWOT to hold all the TCCC-specific medical kits people were now carrying. The Army actually came up with a cheap and effective option, take the already in production and supply systems 100 round saw pouch and make an insert to fit that. And it works wonderfully. 100 round saw pouches are EVERYWHERE for not too much money. You can even get ACU ones if you feel artistic and want to either dye it or rattle can it. The inserts can be had for not too much money either. I like to find mine on Ebay.

I like to keep an IFAK on the outside of my backpacks if there is PALS webbing on the side of the pack. On the other side I like to run a canteen pouch.

The insert fits perfectly even in this British 100-round LMG pouch.

The IFAK insert includes an elastic strap to keep a tourniquet easily accessible when you need it. This will also fit into most cargo pockets.

The contents inside the insert. A Stuck Pig Medical IFAK fits perfectly inside this Plus room for additional supplies if you wanted to add to it (like a chest decompression needle)

There are gromets in a few locations on the inserts for attaching shock cord or 550 cord to secure the tape to the insert so you don’t lose it, and to attach the insert to the pouch so it doesn’t get lost. I would recommend at least running 550-cord for securing the roll of tape. IFAK pouches can get expensive, especially when are trying to set up equipment for your group. Hopefully, this saves you some money so you can spend it on the important stuff.

We got a bunch of those from DRMO and that explains why they didn’t seem to attach to anything. We didn’t get the SAW pouches issued.
