DHS secretary defends disinformation board and its ‘neutral’ leader

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas defended his agency’s controversial new Disinformation Governance Board.

Mayorkas said the board would not be used to monitor U.S. citizens and praised its new leader, who has come under fire, during a Sunday interview on CNN’s State of the Union.

“The board does not have any operational authority or capability,” Mayorkas told CNN’s Dana Bash. “What it will do is gather together best practices of addressing the threat of disinformation from foreign state adversaries, from the cartels, and disseminate those practices to the operators that have been executing and addressing this threat for years.”

The secretary said “no” when asked if the board will monitor U.S. citizens.

BIDEN ADMINISTRATION TAKES HEAT OVER DHS DISINFORMATION BOARD

Mayorkas also defended the board’s head, Nina Jankowicz, called her “eminently qualified,” a “renowned expert,” and “neutral.”

Jankowicz, who previously served as a disinformation fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center think tank, has been criticized for her promotion of Christopher Steele’s discredited dossier and dismissing concerns around Hunter Biden and his laptop. Republicans immediately began criticizing the board, comparing it to the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell’s book 1984.

The DHS secretary conceded the Biden administration failed to give the board a proper rollout and communicate its purpose.

“The secretary said “no” when asked if the board will monitor U.S. citizens.”

Where have we heard this before?

“In March 2013, Sen. Ron Wyder asked Clapper under oath if the U.S. government was collecting “any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans.” Clapper paused and said, “No, sir. … Not wittingly.” Three months later, Edward Snowden leaked documents revealing that the National Security Agency was in fact collecting in bulk domestic call records and other various internet communications on millions of Americans.”

Right. Wasn’t it recently said by this fake administration that white supremacists here in USA are the the “biggest threat” to our Country? 13 of 19 of the 9/11 terrorists were CIA assets. But white supremacists!!!
One thing is absolutely certain, if a government starts a Ministry of Truth, the only “truth” they are concerned with is in promoting their own “truth”. Like jsixers being insurrectionists, and blm criminals being mostly peaceful protestors. And, also, who else thinks that Nina chick who is to head this bs dept. looks an awful lot like a dude??
