CREATE TOPOGRAPHICAL MAPS

Click on the website and go to TopoBuilder for a custom map of an area that you want. (i.e. address, park etc)

I have downloaded them for entire states. The other suggestion I would make is if you have an android powered tablet, get a copy of OSMand:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand.plus (Plus version, yes, it costs $15 (normally $30), BUT you can download however much you want).
OSMand (OpenStreetMap Android) allows you to download local copies of both the street maps and the topo maps to any android tablet or phone. If you get the + version, there is no limit, so you can download whole countries or all of the world, and have it even if the internet goes poof.

There are windows, Linux and Mac versions of OSM clients as well.

Plus OSM data captures a LOT more than what normal maps do… Search by all sorts of “things” and you would be surprised on how much it has. Not just roads and topos. In fact, there are websites to pull from the “other” data as well:
