For a long time I actually had a double wrap of that orange construction fencing you see all over wadded up in my truck as a potential improvised litter. It compacts really well and because it’s like chain link there are plenty of places for easy handholds. Not all that robust but it would work in a pinch. I eventually replaced it with something from North American Rescue- I was surprised how cheap it was, I think I paid $17 or something like that.

    My old “fencing” solution–https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-22226O/Traffic-Safety/Safety-Fence-Heavy-Duty-4-x-100-Orange?pricode=WA9751&gadtype=pla&id=S-22226O&gclid=Cj0KCQjw29CRBhCUARIsAOboZbIYlGeSlNvZrZ7QdlxW39XnWQOxJC1B-mfBSgfhlGeiCVUYMhsupG0aApnrEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

That is a great improvised litter idea!

I got the fencing for free from a buddy that works construction, they use it all the time. I met him at a jobsite as they were taking some down and he just said- “take whatever you want.”… I got probably 100′ of it. I used some myself and gave quite a bit out to family and friends. Not the very best solution but better than nothing, and free…

Free is always good. I have a WALK kit for my main litter

I second that construction fence idea. We have a roll of that as well, using it as an overhead cover over a garden. Cut enough sunlight in the summer and the holes would not catch the wind and get pulled off in storms. It worked well.

Never a thought towards a carry unit though – Thank You for the idea.

On our FD, we all carry tubeular nylon webbing and we have learned to rig a hasty harness. I think for the weight and the likelihood that you would not easily be able to stand up (and expose yourself as a target in a fighting situation) that his could be great option.

There’s a 4 minute video on setting up the harness from North American Rescue. The webbing is light weight and could have other uses as well.

I started carrying mine after the Vegas shootings. I recall seeing people carrying folks out on crowd fencing etc….whatever they could get their hands on and decided I needed something.
