Request for Information (RFI) – Weekly SITREP

I am going to make this a weekly post so that we can use this as a place to make any reports on unusual activity or localized hotspots of trouble. We did this a few times during COVID (here, here, here, and here) but I figured that, as our conditions continue to degrade around the country, it would be useful to bring this back as a regularly recurring topic of discussion.

Post your reports in the comments below.

This was interesting to me. My truck died. I called two places. One financed through bigger banks, i.e. Wells Fargp in this case. The other small local banks. The big banks would not loan, while two local banks would. We are only talking $5,000 loan with 635 credit score. NW Iowa.

Gas under $3 for regular 10% alcohol.

    General Location: Central California

Food prices/Shortages: Nothing significant, geography supports local produce & farmer’s markets. No shortages noted.

Fuel prices: It’s California, so there is that. Overall, diesel prices at the pump are down about $0.34/per gallon since September.

Unusual military movement: Nothing significant. Air Guard and nearby NAS seem to be on normal rotations and flight schedules. ANG not doing anything out of the ordinary.

    Civil unrest: Nothing to note

Interesting local news/events: No overt left-inclined protests, either in public or at the local university.

Public Service Interruptions: Nothing of note. CA does have “Public Safety Power Shutoffs, PSPS” that occur with fires in the mountains, or high winds.

Changes in patterns of life: Winter in CA, which is not severe; otherwise quiet here behind the “Prius Line”

Additional observations: El Nino may bring more significant rain and flooding again this year. While better prepared, the State is still not up to more flooding. Agriculture took a hit, with the rain and flooding, so prices for some items will likely increase e.g., almonds and raisins.

    General Location: Upper New England

Food Price / Shortages: Elevated /None

Fuel Prices / Shortages: Elevated with some downward price trends / None

Unusual Military Movement: Large scale military airlift to Europe and points east ongoing.

    Civil Unrest / Crime:
The confluence of the various drug/immigration/homelessness/ poverty problems has produced some interesting developments.

-Large cities including Boston have resorted to allowing illegal aliens to shelter inside the airport terminals.
    – Massachusetts announced they are officially “full” at 7000+ alien “families” imported into the state. Assuming family translates to at least 3, that is only 21k invaders that have overwhelmed the state assistance resources. State government is now making space for shelter inside government office buildings.
    – A non profit refugee resettlement agency is looking to hire Afghan case officers for the projected doubling of Afghan resettlement into Lewiston Maine.
    – Portland Maine City council voted down a proposal to legalize homeless camping in the city despite the shrieking and other attempts to disrupt the meeting by Left wing activists.
-State and Federal Legislators have been receiving briefings from Federal and State law enforcement related to the Large scale illegal Chicom marijuana grow operations in the state.

Interesting Local News / Events: None

    Public Service Interruptions: None

Changes in Patterns of Life: None

    General Location: Connecticut

Food Price / Shortages: elevated. Note that store shelves reconfigured to appear fuller. Shrinkflation – get less for more is common. Restaurant prices very elevated.

Fuel Prices / Shortages: $3.33-$3.79 regular. Prices range wildly across state.

    Unusual Military Movement: none

Civil Unrest / Crime: increase in petty crime – larceny, shoplifting, car theft.

Interesting Local News / Events: Republicans maintain/increase seats in local elections in Red suburban towns. Big voter fraud bust in Bridgeport, no surprise, Dems of course.

    Public Service Interruptions: none

Changes in Patterns of Life: note decreased service hours in banks pharmacies and restaurants.

Any additional observations or comments: note notable increase size of first ccw permit classes at local range.

Niagara Falls NY, 22Nov. Vehicle traveling at high rate of speed hit a fence (?) near US side border crossing building to NF Ontario. Vehicle blew up. News reports no secondary devices found. Story still breaking at this time. Tomorrow morning in excess of 13,000 people will be running a 128 year old foot race on Delaware Ave, Buffalo.

    Central VA

Gas prices unrealistically low at 3.09

Sudden appearance at several residences of “Real Estate Auction” and “Personal Property Auction” (both together) at multiple homes I drive by on way to work; working class neighborhood. New in the past few days. Jingle mail?

People: the veneer is noticeably thinner

Civil unrest: none noted, some stupid palestinian israeli shit (in other words, none noted)

Local businesses slowing down. Car parts stores closing, probably internet competition. Sheetz / Wawa not very busy anymore, etc.

6-12 months: incredible influx of newb drivers, people driving with extremely exaggerated caution. Like a step change of these, not incremental. Probably local catholic charity getting paid by state / feds to relocate foreigners who have zero cultural experience with automobiles and driving. The only way government will stop this shit is when it goes bankrupt.

Food: shrinkflation. Toilet paper rolls narrower, etc. Stupid.

Medical system: slowly but surely it is grinding to a halt. Appointments 7-10 days. Staffing shortages, many staff display overwork / burnout. Extreme compartmentalization between specialties. Wife says she hears average time needed to be diagnosed with a serious condition is now 3-4 months. Tests scheduled incrementally 7-10 days each, with resulting provider appts in between, also 7-10 days. She would know.

Why are they trying to sell us edged weapons, do they think we’re Hutus / Tutsis?

    AO: southern greece

generally not much to report. fuel prices a tiny shade lower, petrol eur 2.05-2.30/liter, diesel 1.90-2 / liter.
now that olive harvest has gotten underway , oil prices are around eur 10/liter this year , the price the producer gets for his oil. this is finally profitable and people are harvesting trees that have been ignored for years with lower prices. price was 7 last year, 5 in 21, and 3.50 before.
a few weeks ago all the streetlights on the main roads (but not on aide streets or in villages etc, just out on the main car roads) were replaced with some modern expensive looking LED models (terribly harsh and ugly light that blinds you at night, not an improvement). Casual visual inspection does not indicate that they have cameras or other gadgets on them, but have not yet scanned them for wireless comms emanations etc yet. the previous street lighting had been installed late-1960s to early-1970s under the ‘junta’ which was the last reasonable government in this country so it was in truth falling apart.
govt expanding its use of taxation based on imaginary ‘deemed’ or ‘evidenced’ income based on arbitrary criteria, this time, declaring that all self-employed people will be taxed on income at minimum X, regardless of actual income. some strikes and demonstrations but there is seldom much pushback in this country- amusingly for well-paid self-employed folks , doctors and lawyers with private practices etc, this now means they can just pay tax on this ‘minimum’ and have a strong legal standing to challenge an attempt to tax them on anything more than that. but 90% of the self-employed in this country have real groww reciepts below the amount, nevermind net. so far taxi drivers are the biggest visible resistance with multiple strikes.
some rumor of notaries striking in response to some new govt measures for ‘one click’ type property transfers (designed to make ‘you will own nothing’ more convenient) as currently notaries must do lots of procedure (and get paid well for it) for property transfers.
stores seem stocked as usual. an item ordered from somewhere in northern europe got delivered on time so that part of the private sector shipping is working well if a single datapoint means anything.
a syrian culture-enhancer was arrested a couple days ago for serial rapes, and at first glance it seems as if the system might be trying to play a bit tougher of a look, by allowing the information to circulate firsthand about his nationality and previous arrest record for similar offences. usually when it’s foriegners who are here illegally, they go out of their way to not make the details public.

    not much else to report.
