Request for Information (RFI) – Weekly SITREP

I am going to make this a weekly post so that we can use this as a place to make any reports on unusual activity or localized hotspots of trouble. We did this a few times during COVID (here, here, here, and here) but I figured that, as our conditions continue to degrade around the country, it would be useful to bring this back as a regularly recurring topic of discussion.

Post your reports in the comments below.

4 October 2023

General Location: New Jersey

Food Price / Shortages: Some fresh produce; discounted meat section is starting to include some higher end cuts since they cannot be afforded at market value

Fuel Prices / Shortages: $2.50 regular / $4.40 diesel / prices have fallen about ~$0.15 in the past two weeks

Unusual Military Movement: Not unusual, but the nearby joint base is having it’s noisiest month in a while, with most days rated as “moderate (.50 cal / rocket fire / rotary cannons)” or “high (mortar live fire / howitzer fire / cratering charges)”

Civil Unrest / Crime: Seems to be a bit of an uptick in shootings in the north part of the state over the past week.

Interesting Local News / Events: Bob Menendez continues to be a stubborn bastard and refuses to step down after yet another round of corruption charges

Public Service Interruptions: N/A

    Central Ohio
    Shortages on some prescription meds
Gangs of disadvantaged youths with modified glocks (happy switch equipped) control all of the inner part of 270 and also Easton Mall.

CPD will not respond to rape or assault calls in most cases.

    General Location: Upper New England

    Food Price / Shortages:
Quality Beers were non existent 2 days ago while cheaper brands were fully stocked. Otherwise, no shortages and prices remain high.
The fall harvest is nearly complete in the region and there appear to have been good yields on most food crops.

    Fuel Prices / Shortages:
    No shortages, prices remain elevated

Unusual Military Movement: Another high altitude military balloon spotted on ADS-B traffic site. This time it was over New Brunswick Canada with an unknown previous track and was registered to Canadian military. Similar sighting 2 weeks ago crossed the state of Maine into New Brunswick and had US Mil registration.

Civil Unrest / Crime: Consistent levels of all crime

Interesting Local News / Events: More “affordable” housing projects approved for a regional immigrant destination city. Homeless camp in large city scheduled to be cleared by city DPW in November. A solo homeless camper hidden in a wooded strip inside an industrial park near Portland Maine set his tent on fire with a gas heater. Subject had a firearm in the tent and media is reporting that 17 rounds of ammunition for it detonated in the fire.

    Public Service Interruptions: None

Changes in Patterns of Life: Excessive local and regional rain events seem to be a regular feature in the Northeast US this year. In early summer it was upper NY state and Vermont with flooding and damage. NYC was last week and other small towns in New Hampshire, Mass, and Maine have had episodes.

This is very interesting. Haven’t seen it talked about elsewhere. Thanks for the report!

It is interesting. The free ADS-B site I use has a balloon icon that gets assigned to these. The Registration info is usually skimpy compared to other mil and private aircraft. I have seen some originating in the Iowa area and working above the upper Midwest in the past, but these are the first I have seen in my area.
Oddly enough, There appear to be other balloons in use that are not using the balloon icon on this site. They have a fighter aircraft type profile icon, but they appear to be stationary. and seem to always be on station and at a low altitude of under 1000ft, they are likely to be tethered. The main one has been in the NYC area for months of of Tom’s River New Jersey. It has B270E02 for a registration number. Another one has recently appeared further south off the Delaware Bay with all the same particulars and a registration of ELW01..

  3. Truth in Tension October 4, 2023 at 15:27

    General Location: East Texas
Food prices continue to either increase or container / package size is smaller. Shortages are minimum.

Fuel price ( unload gasoline) is range bound between $3.33 and $3.48

Unusual Military Movement: None, however, geoengineering / chemtrail spraying remains heavy; turning the sky to a grey color on most days.

Civil Unrest / Crime: Small uptick in Black on White crime / murder.

Interesting Local News / Events: Republicans are losing support due to their impeachment of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Ken Paxton was acquitted of all charges in the Texas Senate. He remains very popular. This impeachment of Paxton, as well as, the Republican support for US House Speaker RINO Republican Kevin McCarty is unpopular amount conservations in the area. These actions coupled with the border invasion and the Ukraine war may end up being unfavorable in next year’s elections. Also, most people are displeased with the ever increasing property taxes that the Republican majority in the legislature failed to address as they promised.

The border invasion is becoming a hot topic in the area as residents are seeing the buses filled with illegal aliens as the buses make rest stops in the area. The governor’s and the legislature’s actions seem weak / pathetic at best.

    Public Service Interruptions: None

Changes in Patterns of Life: Notice that people are more cautious when taking to strangers. Especially around a certain nonproductive ethnic group.

General Location: So. Oregon, I-5 Corridor

Food Prices/Shortages: Typical early monthly food buy seems to have increased 20%; shelves generally are stocked although less than 50% visually compared to pre-2020

Fuel Price: Regular station is $4.75/gal; no significant change

Unusual Mil Movement: Nothing observed on ground; stepped up Winchester 3030 and MilAirEm (243) broadcasts (CAP?)

Civil Unrest/Crime: Increased incidents of violent assaults/crime compared to this time last year (several a week); local LEA continue to be understaffed
(State/SO/PD/Dispatch); homeless encampments are typical powder keg and arsons/attempted arsons are a regular occurrence; crime seems to be creeping from downtown areas to suburban and rural areas; new phenomenon of calls for service being triaged according to dispatch protocol occurs more frequently; civil and social services stressed and not functioning effectively

Interesting obs: our Sheriff and Deputies are awesome, for real; the ‘vid is making the rounds although no mask mandates reinstated; we’re a purple county so political tensions seem to ebb and flow, no real change
