Request for Information (RFI) – Weekly SITREP

I am going to make this a weekly post so that we can use this as a place to make any reports on unusual activity or localized hotspots of trouble. We did this a few times during COVID (here, here, here, and here) but I figured that, as our conditions continue to degrade around the country, it would be useful to bring this back as a regularly recurring topic of discussion.

Post your reports in the comments below.

    Changes in Patterns of Life:
With the continued wet weather, rivers and the water table remain high and in many cases agricultural land is inundated or too wet to work. The season for most planting is still a few weeks away, but there has been no annual influx of foreign seasonal farm workers in the region as of yet.

Audible evidence of people taking target practice in the area has decreased considerably over the winter. Reasons unknown. Ammo is plentiful if expensive.

The local Walmart seems to be the place to make an unscientific count of the foreign population. Intact families are more common than groups of males.

Premature death rate remains high. Drug overdoses and suicide likely account for most, but I suspect high area Death Vax uptake is also a cause.

Many established area farms are currently for sale. Evidence suggests older persons are looking to cash out at the top of the real estate market and leave the Maine winters behind for the Sunny South. The new owners seem to be fond of posting their new holdings against hunting and snowmobiles.

As always, thanks for the report! I guess intact families is better than the alternative re: foreign populations

It’s a mixed bag. All mil aged men would be an obvious problem until they wander off to better/easier pickings (Life in the North country is not easy), or get taken out with the trash for cause. We can spot New Yorkers and other “southerners” easily enough, so foreigners stand out like a neon light. The intact family groups are at greater risk of staying put and putting down roots and are suggestive of an established support network to get them here and sustain them.
